What is the eBay Anything Points program?
The eBay Anything Points is a unique program that allows buyers to pay for eBay items with a new promotional currency called eBay Anything Points when they pay using their PayPal account.

In addition, eBay sellers can use their points to pay for their eBay seller fees when they make a payment to eBay with their PayPal account. More details.

You can earn Points from program partners, special offers and sellers who offer Points.Your Anything Points will be stored in a special balance in your PayPal account until you are ready to use them to pay for your eBay items.

What are Anything Points worth?

One (1) eBay Anything Point equals US $0.01 towards the payment of either:

    Any eBay item paid for through PayPal that meets the following criteria:

  • Seller accepts PayPal as a payment method
  • Item was originally priced on an eBay site in one of the following currencies: US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Pounds Sterling, or Euros
  • Item must be paid for through PayPal within 10 days of item ending
  • Item was bought on an eBay site using the same eBay account that was used to register for the Anything Points account
  • Effective 2/13/04, Anything Points can be applied to your total eBay purchase, including taxes, shipping and insurance.

    All eBay.com (US) seller fees when a payment is made to eBay via PayPal for sellers who meet the following criteria:

  • Originally registered on eBay.com (US).
  • Billing currency is US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Pounds Sterling, Euros or Yen.

Where are my Anything Points stored?
Your Anything Points are stored in a special Anything Points account balance within your PayPal account.

Your Anything Points balance can be found by clicking Redemption Codes on the Profile Summary page. The Profile Summary page is found by clicking the Profile sub-tab from your Account Overview page.


Signing up for an Anything Points Account

How much does it cost to sign up for Anything Points?
It's FREE! There are no fees for registering an Anything Points account.

Who can sign up for an Anything Points account?
The Anything Points program is available to eBay users who originally registered an eBay account on eBay.com (US) or eBay.ca (Canada). In order to use the program, you must have a PayPal account and be a user in good standing with both eBay and PayPal.

How do I sign up?
To register, simply go to the Anything Points Home Page and click Sign Up. Follow the onsite instructions to complete the program registration process.

What are the steps of the sign up process?
When you click Sign Up on the Anything Points Home Page, you will then complete the following process, which will only take a minute:

  1. Sign in with your eBay User ID and password. If you do not yet have an eBay account, register with eBay first and then return to the Anything Points registration process.
  2. Enter your PayPal email address. If you do not yet have a PayPal account, that's okay. Simply enter your regular email address on this page. Once you have completed Anything Points registration, register for PayPal using the same email address and your Anything Points account will automatically appear in your PayPal account.
  3. Review the Terms and Conditions and click Submit.
  4. Save your Anything Points account number for your records. You will need to use this number in order to earn points from our partners. A confirmation email that includes your Anything Points account number will be sent to you upon completing the registration process.


Getting eBay Anything Points

How do I get eBay Anything Points?
You can get Anything Points through our partner offers. These partners offer Anything Points for purchasing their goods or services, or allow you to exchange other loyalty points or miles for Anything Points.

How do I exchange my other loyalty points or miles for Anything Points?
To learn about opportunities to exchange partner loyalty points or miles for Anything Points, go to the Get Points page and click on the partner offer that interests you. The details on how to exchange will be explained on that partner's page.

How do the Anything Points get put into my account if a partner is offering Anything Points as a promotion to purchase their goods or services?

In most cases, the partner will ask you to supply your Anything Points account number to them at the time of purchase. After the purchase is completed, the partner will credit the appropriate number of Anything Points to your account (so no additional work will be required on your part.)

The amount of time it takes for the Anything Points to be credited to your account will vary by partner and each partner will advise you on when you can expect to see the credit reflected in your balance.


Spending Anything Points to pay for eBay items

How do I spend my Anything Points to pay for eBay items?
Use your Anything Points through your PayPal account to pay for items purchased on eBay.

When you spend your Anything Points, the seller will receive regular funds as with any other PayPal payment. So it makes no difference to the seller if you pay with points or with money.

What is a Redemption Code?

At PayPal, your Anything Points account number is considered a "Redemption Code" because you use it to redeem your Anything Points when paying for your eBay items. In the future, there will be other types of Redemption Codes at PayPal.

What is the process for spending my Anything Points through PayPal?
To spend your Anything Points to pay for eBay items, go to PayPal and complete the following steps:

  1. Initiate Payment at PayPal: Begin the payment process and log into your PayPal account.
  2. Check payment details page: If you have an active Anything Points account, you will see a section titled "Redemption Code (optional)" that includes the following text: "To use your eBay Anything Points for your purchase, use your Redemption Code" Click Redemption Code in this text.
  3. Redemption Codes page: On this page you will see your Anything Points balance and its corresponding value in $US. Select to use your Anything Points account for the payment and click Continue.
  4. Check payment details page: The amount of your Anything Points you are spending will now appear in the "Source of Funds" section of this page. If you change your mind and decide not to use Anything Points for the payment, click Remove.

Verify all of the information on this page and click Send Money or Pay at the bottom of the screen. The process is now complete. The seller will receive funds in their designated currency just as with any other PayPal payment

How do I pay an eBay seller in a currency other than US Dollars?
Anything Points can also be used to pay sellers in Canadian Dollars, Pounds Sterling, or Euros. To pay for items listed in one of these non-$US currencies, PayPal will automatically calculate the conversion rate and pay the seller the correct amount in the currency of their choice.

If you elect to pay for an eBay item in a currency other than U.S. Dollars, Anything Points will first be converted to U.S. Dollars, then to the currency of your choice. PayPal sets the currency conversion rates on a daily basis.

Are there specific payment areas at PayPal where Anything Points must be used?
Yes. Anything Points must be spent in payments originating from eBay Checkout or PayPal's Send Money (eBay Items), Request Money (eBay Items) Auction Finder, Auction Invoicing, or Automatic Payment Request payment areas.

What if I don't have enough Anything Points to cover the entire item price?
No problem. If you do not have enough Anything Points in your balance to pay the entire item price, you can fund the remaining portion using your regular PayPal Balance or another funding source (such as your bank account or credit card).

What if a payment is denied or reversed by the seller? Do my Anything Points get returned to me?
Yes. Whenever a payment is denied or reversed, all of the Anything Points used in the payment will be returned to your Anything Points balance.

Does the seller have to agree to accept Anything Points?
No, payments made with Anything Points should appear just like regular payments to the seller. When you spend your Anything Points, the seller will simply receive funds in their designated currency just as with any other PayPal payment.

If I have more than one eBay account, can my Anything Points be spent across all of my eBay accounts?
No. Your Anything Points can only be spent to pay for eBay items that were bought using the same eBay account that you used to register for your Anything Points account.

Can I pay for someone else's eBay items with my Anything Points?
No. Your Anything Points can only be spent to pay for eBay items that were bought using the same eBay account that you used to register for your Anything Points account.


Spending Anything Points to pay for eBay seller fees

How do I spend my Anything Points to make a payment for my eBay seller fees using my PayPal account?
To make a payment either go to the "Accounts" tab on My eBay or to the Make a One Time Payment page. Enter your payment amount in the PayPal payment box and click "pay". You will then be redirected to the PayPal site to complete your payment.

Once you arrive at PayPal, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign into your PayPal account
  2. You're Almost Done! page will come up: You will see a section titled "Redemption Code (optional)". Click the Redemption Code link in this section.
  3. Redemption Codes page will come up: On this page you will see your Anything Points balance and its corresponding value in $US. Select to use your Anything Points account for the payment and click Continue.
  4. The amount of your Anything Points you are spending will now appear in the "Source of Funds" section. (Any remaining portion of the payment that exceeds your Anything Points balance will be funded by your primary funding source.)
Note: If you have an automatic payment method on file, please make your PayPal payment in full within 5 days from your invoice date. This will insure there are no overpayments to your account.

Do I have to sign in at eBay or can I go straight to PayPal to make my payment for eBay seller fees?
Your payment of your seller fees must be initiated from the eBay site as described in the previous question.

Can all sellers use Anything Points to pay their eBay fees?
Only sellers originally registered on the eBay.com (US) site who are billed in US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Pounds Sterling, Euros or Yen may pay their seller fees with Anything Points.

When will my payment post to my eBay seller account?
The posting of your payment to your eBay seller account depends on the funds available in your PayPal account. If you have available funds the payment will be posted to your eBay seller account immediately and your eBay account balance will be reduced. If you use a funding method such as an echeck to fund your PayPal account, your eBay Account will reflect the payment as "pending" until the funds have been deposited in your PayPal account. Once the funds have cleared your account balance will reflect your payment.


My Anything Points Account at PayPal

How can I view my current Anything Points account information?
There are three ways to get to your Anything Points account information at PayPal:

  • My Anything Points account at PayPal link at the Anything Points Home page on eBay:
    1. Click the My Anything Points account at PayPal link on the Anything Points Home page on eBay.
    2. Log in to your PayPal account. Once you have signed in, you will be taken directly to the Redemption Code Summary page.
    3. Your Anything Points account number and a current balance will appear on the Redemption Code Summary page. Click Details to view your Anything Points account history.
    4. Your Anything Points account history will display the credit/debit history of your account, including all spending, earning, and partner point/mile exchanges.
  • Navigation at PayPal
    1. Go to www.paypal.com and log in to your PayPal account.
    2. On the Account Overview page, click the Profile tab at the top of the page.
    3. Click the Redemption Codes link in the Financial Information column.
    4. You will then arrive at the Redemption Code Summary page described above.
  • eBay will send you a monthly EAP account statement by email as long as you have opted-in to receive "eBay email" in your User Preferences.

Do Anything Points ever expire?
No, as long as you meet the minimum activity requirement described in the next question/answer, your Anything Points will not expire.

Is there any requirement for me to actively use my Anything Points account?
Yes, the minimum activity requirement is that you complete a minimum of one of the following actions during any given 12 month period: spend Anything Points, earn Anything Points, or exchange between Anything Points and partner points/miles.

If you fail to complete at least one of the above actions for over 12 months, then a fee of 100 Anything Points will be assessed each month thereafter until you use your account again or until your Anything Points balance reaches 0.

Important note: You will never be charged cash for the maintenance fee. In the event that your account reaches 0, this fee will no longer apply.

What is my Anything Points account number used for?
On the final page of program registration, you will receive your Anything Points account number. Your Anything Points account number is used whenever you spend, earn, or exchange Anything Points. You should write this account number down and save it for your records.

When spending your Anything Points through PayPal, your account number will be displayed on the "Redemption Codes" page in the payment flow so you will not need to manually enter it.

You will often be required to provide your Anything Points account number to partners when taking advantage of partner promotions in which Anything Points are offered for purchasing their goods or services. Providing your account number will allow the partner to credit your Anything Points balance with the appropriate number of points.

I forgot my Anything Points account number, what do I do?
Simply click the My Anything Points account at PayPal link on the Anything Points Home page at eBay. Then log in to your PayPal account and you will arrive directly at your Redemption Code Summary page. This page will show you your Anything Points account number.

Can I have more than one Anything Points account?
Yes. Each eBay account can only have one Anything Points account associated with it. However if you have multiple accounts with eBay, then you can have multiple Anything Points accounts at your PayPal account. All of your Anything Points accounts will be displayed on the Redemption Code Summary page.

Can I transfer Anything Points to another user's Anything Points account?
No. Anything Points can only be spent to pay for eBay items that you have bought. (In some cases, Anything Points may be exchanged for other partner loyalty points or miles.)


For eBay Sellers

Does this program benefit eBay sellers?

Yes, eBay sellers can use their points to pay for their eBay seller fees when they make a payment to eBay with their PayPal account. More details.

As a seller, what do I need to do to participate?
All you need to do to participate is accept PayPal as a payment method.

You will simply receive a regular PayPal payment in your designated currency whenever points are used, so this program will not impact the way you are accustomed to receiving payments.

If a buyer mixes Anything Points with another funding source, will I still receive a single PayPal payment?
Yes. The process is seamless to you as a seller, and you will receive a regular, single PayPal payment when buyers combine Anything Points with other funding sources at PayPal.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my exchange transaction when I tried to exchange between eBay Anything and Hilton HHonors points?

If there is a problem with your exchange transaction, contact eBay Customer Support. (Click ask a question at the bottom of the Help page.)

If you have general questions regarding your Hilton HHonors account, you may call Hilton HHonors Customer Service Center at 1-800-548-8690 in the U.S. and Canada Monday - Friday 6:30AM - 12:00AM CST and Saturday and Sunday 8:30AM - 5:00PM CST.

What if a partner offered Anything Points for purchasing their goods or services and I have not yet seen the points credited to my balance?
If the points have not been credited after the amount of time you were advised upon purchase (i.e. "Your Anything Points will be credited to your account within __ weeks"), then contact the partner directly to inquire about the status of your Anything Points.


Anything Points program termination

Why are you discontinuing the U.S. program?

The decision to discontinue the eBay Anything Points program was made after receiving input from U.S. members and assessing the benefit to the U.S. Community. We believe the decision to discontinue this program will allow us to channel our resources into other areas that will better serve the U.S. Community.

What happens to the points in my account? Can I still use them?

All Points earned will remain in your account until redeemed or the program terminates in August 2006. We encourage you to use your Points as early as possible.

I have points that are missing. How do I claim them?

If you have points that are missing, please contact Customer Support for the specific partner offer with which you earned the Points. If it was an eBay promotion, you can contact eBay customer support. In all cases you may be asked to provide proof of the transaction and/or be required to correct certain account information.

Are you going to have another program similar to this one in the U.S.?

At this time, we have no specific plans for another points based program in the U.S. Please note that the program continues in Canada.

I have added Points to my listings. What will happen to these listings?

Beginning August 15th, Sellers will no longer be able to use Offer Manager to offer Anything Points on their listings. All listings that offer Anything Points on or after this date will continue to do so until September 30th, 2005. At that time, these listing will be modified and the Anything Points incentive will be removed. We encourage you to update your listing and remove Anything Points you may have added as soon as possible.

I have an eBay credit card. What will happen to this credit card?

You will continue to be able to use your eBay credit card and your credit card provider will send additional information in the coming weeks. For immediate concerns about your Credit Card, please contact your respective credit card provider at the number printed on the back of your credit card.

I am a Canadian? Will the program continue in Canada?
